Formation of Regular Conformational Sequences in the Gels of Atactic Polystyrenes with Various Stereoregularities

Abstract

     The gelation of atactic polystyrene (aPS) with various stereoregularity was investigated by infrared spectroscopy.   In order to investigate the molecular structure in the gel and its stereoregularity dependence, samples obtained by epimerization of isotactic polystyrene (ePS) were used, where the stereoregularity covered a wide range from Pm = 0.4 to 0.87.   In spite of the lack of a long stereoregular sequence in these samples, the conformation predicted to be most stable for each stereoregular sequence length was locally formed.
